| Kid's Learning Program |
| The Kids Learning Program, founded by Lindbergh Smith, is a non-profit educational program that has been in operation for the past two years. The program was officially launched in the summer of 2006 for the benefit of the children in local Belizean villages. We initially started out as a community initiative group, and have now officially registered our company. As we continue to grow, we look forward to assisting more children, from all walks of life, on an unbiased and nondiscriminatory basis. Mission Statement The primary mission of KLP is community development through education. The KLP programs seek to enhance the speaking, comprehension, and mathematical skills of students at the primary school levels, as statistics from the Ministry of Education reveal that these are the areas that need the most improvement. Our Goals -To help local Belizean children reach their full academic potential and to inspire a love of learning that will last their lifetimes. -To raise self-esteem and social skills through our Leadership Program -To improve the grades of local children Objective -To assist 75% of the children in Teakettle by 2008 Services *Tutoring *Exciting and adventurous summer programs *Library and Internet services *Kids Precious Moments preschool program Benefits *Learn in a new and exciting atmosphere *Outdoor Learning *Meet and build relationships with children from all over Belize *Experience what quality education is all about *Smile as you watch yourself improve Programs Summer: Part Two This year KLP is implementing "Summer: Part Two" Last year we had 70 students, 30 from the upper division, 25 from the lower division, and 15 from the infant division. Of the 70 students 95% completed the program. This year we are planning to have at least one hundred students. Using hands on education as our foundation and incorporating art, music, and movement to create a holistic interactive education program we strive to inspire a love of learning in these children by making it truly fun and rewarding. Several studies have proved conclusively that children learn best in an outdoor environment so we will incorporate a lot of outdoor learning. Kids will visit the STAND Center to learn about sustainable development as well as the rainforest by participating in a variety of activities that promote group cooperation. Our curriculum will enhance speaking, comprehension, and mathematical skills in unconventional formats such as games and challenges. All children will be encouraged to participate in our free 'Living Art' Program. Kids Precious Moments Our youngest children lack access to community pre-schools and their social and academic skills are, consequently, not challenged. The Kids Precious Moments program seeks to grant this sorely needed access to our local preschoolers helping ease the transition from home to school and giving them a healthy boost to prepare them for primary school. Our focus is again on hands on learning, especially through art and music. All children will be encouraged to participate in our free 'Living Art' Program as well.
